Are duty free chocolates really worth it?

Travellers often pop into the duty free shop to pick up a few things thinking they are saving some money. While that may be true of certain products (perfume and alcohol), it doesn't ring true for others – such as chocolate and candy.

As reported in the Telegraph, a study conducted by Mysupermarket.co.uk, a shopping comparison Web site, found that chocolates and sweets in British airports are up to 150 percent more expensive than in supermarkets.

Among the comparison made include Toblerone bars on sale for £2 at ASDA versus £5 in duty free shops. A 215g bag of Bassets Jelly Babies costs 73p in ASDA while it’s £2 in duty free.

So the next time you're thinking of saving a few pence at the duty free, be sure to comparison shop at your local stores first.
