United announced Monday that it will invest in biometric screening company CLEAR, expanding the program to its hubs at Newark (EWR), Houston (IAH), and eventually Chicago (ORD). It is already available at Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Washington (IAD), and Denver (DEN).

Though membership usually runs $179 annually, United is offering a reduced rate of $119 to its MileagePlus members, $109 to credit cardmembers and Premier, Silver, Gold, or Platinum members. United Premier 1K members may join for free. Those already enrolled can apply the discount to their renewal fee for the next year.

MileagePlus members not already enrolled in CLEAR may do so here.

737 Max Grounding Leads United to Suspend Route

In other United news, the airline has suspended its first route as a result of the continued grounding of the 737 MAX. As of September 2, the carrier will scrap its daily service between Chicago (ORD) and Leon (BJX) Mexico. That still leaves United’s four daily flights between Houston and Leon.

The move will “help mitigate issues resulting from the grounding of the Max aircraft," said a spokesperson for United.

The news comes just a week after Southwest announced that it will pull service from Newark as a result of the 737 Max grounding.
