Willemstad, Curaçao

Rounding out the C of the ABC islands. Curaçao can be considered the best option in the archipelago for adventure seekers than lil’ bro Bonaire and commercialized Aruba. Curaçao falls somewhere in the middle of its two neighbors -- both on the map and with its island offerings. Willemstad, the isle's main gateway and largest city, has been designated as a UNESCO site due to its European style charm and architectural styles. Beyond the colonial colors of Willemstad, you’ll find pastel blue beaches and coves to match, allowing for world-class scuba and snorkeling. Just 40 miles off the coast of South America, its location outside of the hurricane belt allows for year-round travel.

Tucson, Arizona

Skip congested Phoenix and pay the southwestern gem of Tucson a visit this winter. Home to the University of Arizona, this college town offers a lot more than student bars and cheap eats. Albeit colder than most destinations on this list, Tucson’s reasonable winter weather allows visitors to spend more time outdoors exploring the Arizona desert without frying up like a skillet during other periods of the year. Take in the local flora and fauna during a hike at Saguaro National Park or hit the links at Omni Tucson National’s notable Catalina Course that regularly hosts PGA events during the winter stretch. If you consider yourself an airplane aficionado or #avgeek like myself, a trip to the “largest airplane boneyard in the world” at Davis-Monthan AFB is a must for getting a glimpse at planes of yesteryear. With little rain and consistently warm temps throughout the winter, this region of Costa Rica offers the most bang for your buck when it comes to experiencing the nation’s natural beauty. Guanacaste is home to some of the countries most pristine beaches, preserves like Rincon de la Vieja National Park where you can trek next to an active volcano, and a bounty of areas for wildlife spotting.
